Can someone tell me if Someone takes 2-30 mg Oxycodone IR and 60mg Oxycontin ER are they same and dispensed the same into your body if you would cut the ER in half? My friend takes both and she is on mail order. They have made a mix up in her pills so now she will run out of the 30 mg tablets her doctor is 2 hours away and she has to have a driver take her there and that would be me and I am sorry I really do not have the time this week to do it. So I was wondering if she is used to these amounts and trust me she has been in chronic pain her entire life since a child what would be the difference. I read everyone saying if you cut the oxycontin in half it releases immediately. That is the same thing the 30 mg oxycodone do, right?

you people are nuts. Generic oxycodone and name brand are all the same. I know, as I have been a chronic pain patient for almost 20 years. I'm sure all of you built up a tolerance and when you got generic, you thought it wasn't working as well. You all need to research your medication thoroughly.

No, they are not the same. The 30mg would actually be regular release, there are no IR (instant release) in that dosage and the ER would be Oxycontin that's time released. The regular release take about 15 to 20 minutes to start entering your blood stream, after you take them and are released all at once, while the ER are released slowly over a period of 12 hours.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

And no you can't cut the time released ones, because that may cause you to get too much of the medication, at once, which could cause an overdose.
