Is Morphine 15 Mg Stronger Than Percocet

I'm taking 15mg of morphine and my doctor wants to give me percocet due to a recent diagnosis, so I'm kinda wondering if the medication I have now is better or is it about the same?

According to nih.gov, Oxycodone (one of the main active ingredients in Percocet) is said to be approximately 1.5x stronger than Morphine. If this holds true and I did the math correctly, then 7.5mg of Oxycodone would be equal to about 11.25mg of Morphine (7.5 x 1.5 =11.25); and 10mg of Oxycodone would be equal to about 15mg of Morphine (10 x 1.5 =15). The addition of Acetaminophen in Percocet would probably top the 15mg of Morphine if you were prescribed the 10/325 dosage form.

I hope this makes sense!? Never the less, you should be able to trust your doctor to prescribe something of similar or greater efficacy if this is what he/she intends based on your recent diagnosis.

I am absolutely DUMBFOUNDED at the responses to these questions by people who are not doctor's, but only qualify in taking more medication than prescribed as I've read too many of you do. I'm also DISGUSTED that ANY of you have the nerve to give advice on something only you know the effects of for YOUR BODY!!! NOBODY has the same chemistry, makeup, absorption rate or tolerance. I've been on opioids for 20+ yrs and all types....people, they are ALL opioid and ALL dangerous to mess with and take the advice of an unknown unqualified BLOGGER. ALL opioid can cause bowel problems and if most of you.listened, your doctor might have told you ( or most would ), it's just a matter of either taking a stool softener or an anti diarrhea med. You cannot compare morphine to oxy in any capacity, dosage or release control as they have different biology and molecular structure...yes, they are both opiates, but it's like apples and oranges when it comes to relief, release and sustainability. If you REALLY want to know the difference??? ASK YOUR PHARMACIST!!!! Believe it or not, they know more about the drugs they are dispensing, than the Dr. prescribing them to you. PLEASE, PLEASE! DO NOT TAKE ADVICE JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE HAS SIMILAR REACTIONS, INJURIES OR TOLERANCES AS YOU...because believe me, the daughter and granddaughter of nurses, THAT is where the alleged similarities end.I'm 45 and in a wheelchair with a 7yr old who takes care of his mom because I have a pain pump implant as well as a neurostimulator implant in my spine...i cannot drive my precious camaro but once in a bit...so I know....and I would NEVER give advice like I've seen here, remember, the more you take the more you need. Be smart, be careful giving AND receiving advice on a BLOG. SOMEONE is going to get hurt or die this way...what a waste of human life because of ignorance and arrogance.

Well, with all your infinite wisdom you're still very incorrect by saying percocet and morphine are both "opiates"

1) morphine is derived from actual opium which makes it an "opiate"

2) percocet is made chemically which makes it an "opioid" get your facts straight before bashing people with your "20 + yrs of being on opiates"
