They do not become dangerous, once expired, but it does lose effectiveness over time, so after 5 years, they are most likely not worth taking. Taking them could also create the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria.

The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
