Yes, it is actually classified by the FDA as an anticonvulsant, but due to the effect it has on brain chemicals, it can also be used to treat some types of nerve pain and some mood disorders.

Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain.
