Hello, Susie! How are you?
Is it a liquid or tablets?
All medications tend to lose efficacy over time, so taking an antibiotic once it's expired can create the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, since it may not work as well. However, liquids can actually go bad. It really is always better to obtain a new supply from your doctor, if you need an antibiotic.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
Amoxicillin is good for one year when first purchased/received from the pharmacy.
