Is Gabapentin Good For A Very Sore Muscle In Neck

my boyfriend has pulled his neck and shoulder muscles. He was told that Gabapentin might ease this. Do you know?

Gabapentin (brand name Neurontin) is a GABA analogue. It was originally developed for the treatment of epilepsy, and currently, gabapentin is widely used to relieve pain, especially neuropathic pain.

My dr. just started me on this to for neck and shoulder pain, it does help but side effects are blurred vision and sleepness , I am not sure this is the best meds. to be on ! Pretty strong .

Common side effects while taking Gabapentin is blurred vision, Back pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea, stomach ache, feeling tired, vomiting, and weight gain.

Symtoms of overdose are:
constant diarrhea, slurred speech , drowsiness, feeling lethargic, and double vision.

Gabapentin is used for epilepsy and nerve pain - it's NEVER used for muscular pain, because it's not designed to treat muscles and so it does not work on muscle pain at all. Whoever recommended it for a sore neck is an i****! Paracetamol would be the best choice taken with Ibuprofen for inflammation.

Many doctors prescribe too much Gabapentin. Try working with your doctor on finding the right dose for you. Too much causes dizziness and other side effects. My 88 year old father was on 9 a day and was falling a sleep constantly and falling. Once his dose was adjusted, he found nerve pain relief for shingles.

You are better off taking Naproxen Sodium or Ibruprofen for muscle pain/soreness/and stiffness. Gabapentin is a good medicine for nerve pain but it doesn't do anything for muscle pain.
