You should take it as instructed by your doctor. I understand you are in pain, but all antibiotics can take a few days to begin beating the infection.
The general rule is that if it is working, you should not see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours, and you should start to see improvement after taking it for a full 72 hours. If not, then you should return to your doctor. Taking more than prescribed will not change this.
The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
