Increased Dose Adderall Refill

I have an appt. with a new doctor on Thursday (just moved) and am going to see if we can increase my dose from 30mg ir to 30mg xr and 10mg ir for the afternoon. My previous doctor, who is now out of state, wrote me two scripts with "do not fill until" dates so I would have time to find a doctor. I just filled the last one this past week. Obviously, I will tell my new doctor this and have my records faxed to his office. If he does increase my dose/change the type, will he write me a new script for the xr's to be filled? My body doesn't take well to these instant releases anymore-literally crash everyday by noon & feel lethargic the rest of the day with all focus out the window.

P.S. I've had my adderall prescriptions filled at Walgreen's religiously forever so I don't think they're going to think anything weird is going on....even though nothing weird would be going on in the first place. I so hate the stigma attached to stimulants...makes me feel like I have to defend myself for even asking this. Ugh. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Taybay,

Sounds to me like you have everything sorted out and really just need to execute the plan. Only you and your doctor are really going to be able to discuss the possibility of changing your current medication dosages, although I will say that from what I read doctors are less likely to increase your dosages and change your medication at the same time. My guess would be that they will likely want to see how you handle the 30 mg extended release by itself and see if that relieves your problems and then increase the dosage as necessary. Making big changes can lead to big problems and when dealing with medication it's common to want to err on the side of caution.

Hopefully everything works out for you. Let us know when and if the doctor changes your medication I would be interested to see what their opinion of this matter is.
