Im Gonna Try Quiting Oxycontin Today

Hi ther ive been taking oxycontin for the past 2+ yrs (prescribed by my doc). I usually can only make my monthly script last about 2 weeks and then i find myself having to buy them on the street:( (which is very very expensive) im so sick of planning my life around these F***ing pills and have decided that tomorrow morning is the day i quit. ive taken (hopefully my last)40mg pill at midnight tonight and will be w\d free till prob about 8am. For the past yr and a half ive been up to 200-400 mg of oxy a day depending on what i can afford except when i have my script i tend to take more then. Ive been reading all day about w\d and the time it takes 2 get off but if there is anyone who can give me some pointers or support it would be greatly appreciated. Ive managed to keep my addiction secret this whole time from my whole family and im feeling very very alone. :( ive never tried to quit before because ive been sick before and cant handle it and its much easier just to take this little pill and all my pain and problems go away. im just so so sick of the dependance it controls every aspect of my life, i want 2 be done...

Very sorry to read of what you are going through. Addiction is a very difficult thing to deal with and overcome.

However, yes, you will likely experience withdrawals and, with the amount you have been taking each day, they may be pretty severe.

Your best bet would be to seek medical assistance with this and do a slow taper from them, to prevent the worst of the withdrawal effects.

If you choose to go cold turkey, I can tell you that you can expect the withdrawal effects to law anywhere from 2 weeks to a month, while your body readjusts to not having the medication. Though they should gradually taper off in severity as the days go by.

I was on it for pain management for about 6 years and, when I stopped taking it and my Morphine cold turkey, the withdrawal effects lasted about 2 weeks and I had not been abusing it and taking more than was prescribed.

You may also experience rebound pain.
