I Was Prescribed Hydroco Acetamin 5 325 That Are White Oval Marked Red Spots Is This Right

I moved and got new doctors. Before I got hydo/acta 5-325 that had red spots on an white oval tab. Now they gave me 7.5 hydo/acta 7.5-325 that has only a white oval tab that doesn't seem to work near as good. I am not sure why, can you help?

Hi Sammie,

If each pill is manufactured by a different company, not only is there going to be a variation of inactive ingredients (binders/fillers), but also if the medication is in generic form, I've heard that the FDA permits generics to have a plus or minis 20% peak plasma concentration as well, compared to that of other brands/generics. If I understand that correctly, theoretically this means that a 7.5mg tab may only have 6mg that are actually active when the effects are at its peak - and a 5mg tab may also have 6mg that are active; potentially making the two "equal" in strength despite the dosage on the label. The difference in overall efficacy may then come down to whatever binders and fillers are being used - which have been reported to impact absorption/bioavailability. I don't think I could explain this any better since everyone responds differently to the same medication(s), but I hope this helps clear things up for anyone else trying to understand what differences might be affecting their response.
