I Was Drinking Amoxicillin N Its Not Doing Anything For My Tooth Infection And Now My Throat Is Hurting Can I Take Ciprofloxacin Instead (Top voted first)

I was taken Amoxicillin that my dentist Rx to me but its been 3 days now N I have developed a sore throat witch the Amoxicillin is not doing anything for. So can I stop taking that one n start with Ciprofloxacin 500 mg I have instead?

An antibiotic isn't going to help a sore throat, unless it's due to an infection.

And either way, they do take time to work, improvement should be seen after taking it for a full 3 days.

After that if there is still no improvement, you should contact your dentist, because it may not be the right antibiotic to eradicate your infection.

And no, it isn't a good idea to try to treat yourself by taking something else that you have laying around. You may not have enough of it to complete a full course of treatment, which could lead to the development of antibiotic resistance.

Why would you even mention taking Cipro when there are so many other safer alternatives? Why do you want to take it is what I'm asking?????

Amoxicillin is a general antibiotic. Ciprofloxacin is mainly for internal infections eg. Lungs, STI., Bladder, Urinal tract, Kidney, etc.

Hi, I have a sever toothache n swelling and on that I am one month pregnant. I visited my dentist n he gave me amoxicillin for every 8hrs a tab. I started taking it Tod but the pain has not at all reduced n it's giving me sleepless nights n just wanted to know when will it reduce n hope this tab will help or not. Pls help

Sounds like you didn't give it a chance yet, you really need to finish the prescription, it will still work after finished for killing the infection, the only instant pain relief is a pain pill, this is a big mistake people are making not finished there Rx. Your body will build immunity toward antibiotics and that won't hp you when you really need them
