I Recently Was Excepted For Ssd 18 Months To Complete A Total Knee Replacement And Back Surgery My Pcp Will Not Adjust Change Pain Contract
Updatedaccording to her directions and how many pills Im given. I haven't even had the surgeries yet but my pain has been unbearable considering these proven medical problems have been going on for 10+ years. Thank God for OHP, I finally have med insurance, which I hadn't had since 2004. This PCP even knew my old PCP that I had gone to and paying out of my pocket for help with pain management. I was on a 3yr pain contract with old PCP and she was always willing to help with adjusting pain med if they were not helping to keep pain under control. I do not understand why this (younger than me PCP will not even discuss with me about adjusting my pain meds.) She absolutely will not because she says she wouldn't want to have to send me to rehab to get me off of pain pills. Im sorry but WTF? What right does she have to judge and label her patient with a past history of under control pain contract and no reports of abusing meds or having a problem getting off them. I find it insulting and not fair. I havent even begun to start the surgery process let alone the awfully painful physical therapy I will have to got through again for the 3rd time in my life. So does this mean I will not have a choice but to take 5/325 vicodins 1 twice a day or 2 only twice a day but only 90 pills for 30 days while healing after surgeries? She is only writing the prescription for 1p twice a day, not 2 for twice a day for severe pain. I run out before the 30 days and my PCP knows 1 doesn't touch the pain. I have told her I have to take 2 but the directions don't add up to 90 pills. Its not like I am asking to change the type of pain med Im asking for the directions to add up to the dispensed amount of pills. There should be 120 pills for 30 days if Im able to take 2 twice a day, equaling no more than 4 a day. To top off this whole crappy situation I ran out this month, my refill was the 14th. I couldnt call for appointment till the 18th and even then I was unable to get in because the PCP is going to be out till the 27th. Then I was told by her barely 20yr old assistant that to call in my refill to pharmacy and that she may be able to do something for me. Well that sucks, pharmacy calls to leave message saying PCP denied cuz I need to be seen. By this time Im pretty P'd off with that assistant and would not be the 1st time I was upset with her. I get a call from that assistant after office hours saying that the PCP had filled enough pills from the orignal refill date (which was June 14th) that should last me till I come in on the 29th appointment. OMG REALLY! Wow your guys math is off. And I have to endure a painfull 2weeks without. I am not happy with this PCP, but Im to far in with being able to have those surgeries that I can't change anything right now. Can anyone shed some positive light and feedback as to how I can convince her to fix and change?

Hello, TJKitty! How are you?
Actually, how many she can prescribe isn't up to your PCP. The DEA put new regulations in place last year that dictate how much they can prescribe and why they can prescribe it.
It's actually quite amazing that your PCP is still prescribing it, at all. Most have stopped and told their patients that they must go to pain management.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
When will your be having the surgery?
