I'm 36 yrs old (male), my Blood pressure level rises to max 150/100. and for my doctor prescribed me Metoprolol Succinate Extended-Release & Amlodipine 25/2.5 once daily at bed time, and i've been on this medication for the past four months. But still my BP level is not fully controlled and after the medication too, my BP level is @130/90. And i've been having some side effects too like dizziness, headache and my neck randomly becomes stiff. So i want to stop this medication and would like to try another prescription. but in doing so i want to know whether there would be any serious imbalance in my pressure level or any withdrawal symptoms? so i would like to get a feedback on this matter. thank you.

Re: Vittalanand (# 4)
Your comment about any systolic BP that was less your age plus 100 is considered normal? This could prove very misleading to someone who was older where telling them their higher systolic pressure of 165, if they were 64, is normal, when actually it could be stroke level. But I still also think that is too high even for a younger person.
No worries. You hare in your post young age. Any BP with systolic pressure less than age plus 100 is considered normal. Actually your blood vessels are narrow and heart pumps the same quantity of blood for a given period for normal living to provide your brain with ample blood for its normal functioning. The diastolic pressure is slightly elevated that too keep your blood vessels to increase the area so that more blood will follow. You have to worry only when you face some disturbance in heart and head and palpitation.. You have to worry when the difference between diastolic and systolic pressure exceed 50 mm
I'm taking spironolactone 100 mg per day and it has been the best med for my blood pres. sure. I have no side effects at all. My bp has been 120/73 since I have been on it I heard about it and read about it on the Dr's show and read good reviews about it. I would definitely ask the doctor about it..
Amlodipine is a drug to be taken in morning, not by night, and what ever strength you take, it should be only once daily normal maximum is 5 Mg. but some times doctors prescribe more up to 10 mg but always once daily at morning..Metoprolol, also controls heart beat rate. If you were running a heart rate greater than 78 PM Metoprolol will be the best one. But if you had heart rate below 78 and steady, you may consult doctor to change it with Carvedilol of suitable strength as may your doctor decide.
Hello, Naga! How are you?
You are never going to be able to check your blood pressure and find it always staying at certain consistent levels that are considered normal. It is always going to fluctuate, depending on time of day, whether or not you've eaten recently, activity levels and etc.
130/90 is a great improvement from where you were at 150/100.
As to changing your medications, please see your doctor, before doing so, since if you do need to change, they can instruct you on how to do so safely!
Is there anything else I can help with?
