I Live In Columbus And Am Looking For A Methadone Doctor

I live in columbus I am 37 years old and I am looking for a doctor that gives methadone with out a problem I am sick of being treated like a criminal just because I am in pain. Can anone give me some advice.

Hello, Blue! How are you doing? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.

However, there is no such thing as a Methadone doctor, technically, any doctor with a license to practice medicine can prescribe it. The issue, however, is that the DEA set forth new directives last year, so most doctor's won't prescribe controlled substances.

You'll most likely need to see a pain management specialist and, even then, there's no way of knowing if they will or will not prescribe anything. But, if you go in asking for a specific medication, they'll usually view that as being drug seeking behavior. You'll need to set up an appointment, make sure they receive a full copy of your most recent medical records and then discuss your treatment options, at the appointment.

The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

You should also be aware that if you've gone to a drug addiction treatment clinic for Methadone, other doctors will not be able to prescribe it for you. Regardless of why you went to the clinic, an addiction treatment facility is what is listed in your records and it would be illegal for a regular doctor to prescribe it for you.
