I Have Been Switched From 50mmg Fentyal To 30mg Ms Cotin And Seems Worse With Pain Since Switch Meds Seem Work For A Few Days Then Comes Back
UpdatedI have had 3 back surgeries including a spinal stimulator along with 4 hip scopes. I have yet to find a med that helps. I was on fentyal 50mmg then was switched to 30mg MS Contin. I think fentyal was better but I am only the patient. I was on 7.5 percocet for almost 3 years and feel I built up tolerance. My wife says I have a high tolerance for medications with low tolerance of pain. Stimulator doesn't help anymore as it doesn't control region of pain. I see doctor on tuesday and don't know what to do. I feel may be treated as med seeker. I have lived with chronic pain for over 4 years and want some relief.

My doctors have switched me back to 25mmg fentyal and 25 mg morphine 2x a day and I had my stimulator reprogramed. I have some relief but it still affects my activity levels
Hi Brian,
Sorry to hear about your situation. However I'm glad to hear that this new regimen (fentanyl + morphine) is helping enough to notice some amount of relief. I don't know what type of activities you're able to pursue on a regular basis, but if it seems feasible I'd encourage going on walks each day, just long enough to get those endorphins going for their beneficial effects on the mind/body.
And this may be a shot in the dark question, but have you considered looking into the option of medical cannabis (CBD or THC) as a means of adjunctive therapy? I've seen a lot of reviews from pain patients who are able to cut back on their meds with the help of mother nature and wanted to share that bit of information with you in case you hadn't already tried it for yourself.
I am very active as my job requires walking a few miles a day. I am proton ably more active than I should be. Hurts more when just sitting.
As for cannabis I have not tried that as my employer would not allow.
Well I'm no medical professional, but it sounds to me like you probably do get a sufficient amount of exercise through the type of work you do. As someone who works on computers, I also find that sitting too long can be more painful than moving around for long periods.
But back on the topic of cannabis, I know some states that have decriminalized/legalized its use seem to be more lenient, at least from what I can tell, when it comes to allowing their employees the same level of discretion as with any other pharmaceutical medication (such as morphine) - as long as you have a doctor's prescription or recommendation.
According to a US government study, both Cannabidiol (CBD) and THC possess analgesic properties, and are now being recognized as potent neuroprotective antioxidants. This is sounds like an important statement to take in for anyone facing neurological related lumbar pain (e.g. degenerative discs due to damaged nerves). Maybe if more employers understood its medicinal value, they wouldn't be so quick to say no?

The more pain meds you take, the less they work on pain. Before long, every little thing begins to hurt more, and more. So your wife is correct, but can't understand...and it sucks, I know. As for the Fentanyl, it takes a long time to set in and relieve any pain. I think you need 15mg of Oxycodone 3 times a day for break through pain. You also need 20-40mg of Oxicontin 3 times a day for long term pain management. Don't ever drive with any of the prescribed opiate prescriptions. Because if you do the cops will give you a D.U.I./D.W.I. if you get in an accident, so be careful for others and you. Good luck.
