The doctor wants to change me to Diovan and Hydrochlorothiazide. I am currently on Lisinopril 40mg. I am afraid to change. I am allergic to sulfa drugs. I have had a cold/flu for about 2 months and he thinks Lisinopril may be causing the cough. (this is a new doctor to me). I have been on Lisinopril for 10 years and have had no problems. Not sure what to do. Also Diovan is a tier 4 drug. Lisinopril is a tier 1.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a sulfonamide, but they don't always cause problems in people with sulfa allergies.

I've taken it without a problem, but had a very bad allergic reaction to the antibiotic Bactrim and am listed as being sulfa allergic.
However, it is best to proceed with caution.
