Hydroxyzine For Pain

I was prescribed hydroxyzine for sleep but noticed that it killed my arthritis pain. Why does an antihistamine kill my pain?

It could be due to its sedative like effects, since a lot of pain is caused by an excitation of the nerves.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, drowsiness and dry mouth.
