Determining whether hydrocodone should be highly restricted or not is always going to be a hot debate between those in chronic pain who need this drug to function and those in the DEA/FDA/medical field who feel a strong sense of responsibility to fight back through restrictive use of controlled substances.
In my opinion, other countries such as Portugal are a better example of how restricted things should be. Over there ALL drugs are decriminalized and instead of getting thrown in jail or being reprimanded for using these substances, you are offered treatment and mental care for how to gradually life a life without them. Crime rates are down as a result and the US should probably take notes if they want to put an end to this so called war on drugs that wastes our time and tax dollars for putting people away who are going to find a way to obtain these drugs regardless of their legal status. They should just give the people what they want and nobody will have a reason to fight over it...Looking at the bigger picture, there are much more important things to focus on in life than determining who is eligible to receive a medication that only a minority of the population wants/needs.
