Hydrocodone Itching

I seem to have a very smart Doctor. He prescribed Norco 10-325 for post surgical pain. The first bottle gave me nothing but relief. The refill, at a different pharmacy, caused unbelievable itching all over and down my throat. I called and told him he had me look up the mfgr on the bottle. It was Qua. He said my problem is the dye used in the second batch. He re prescribed to the original pharmacy and got the Norco manufactured by Watson. If you are taking an opiate that is making you itch, have your doctor re prescribe from a pharmacy that uses the pill made by a different mfgr. You are probably not allergic to opiates or Codiene after all.

Hello, Charliemike! How are you? I am very sorry about the problem that you experienced.

However, I would like to clarify that while this may be true, when you switch from one generic to another, it could be different if it's the first time someone is taking any given medication. Itching that occurs the first time someone tries it usually signifies an allergy and, if that is the case, they should not continue taking the drug from any manufacturer, because allergic reactions can continue to get worse with exposure.

It should also be noted that this medication does not contain Codeine, as stated the active narcotic is Hydrocodone, which is a different opiate.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Are there any questions or concerns?
