Most pain meds dispensed in
Tablet form have a considerable efficacy period following the official expiration date.When dealing with
Liquid,suspension or syrup's, this a totally Different story.Since these formulations are far more sensitive to possible environmental and storage degradation.It is highly recommended
These preparations are disposed of
Following the cessation of conditions that required such preparation being
Prescribed.I hope this clears up any confusion regarding efficacy of these
Powerful medications.

I would strongly advise against taking liquid hydrocodone past its expiration date. I did that yesterday with meds that were just over a year old - and spent a miserable 16 hours of projectile vomiting.

Hi Jenni,

Based on my research, U.S. prescription medications are required to have a mandatory expiration date of 1 year from the date the prescription is filled. After a year is up, the medication should still be safe but it will start to lose its potency and can no longer be as effective. However, there are some medications that can become dangerous after they expire. That being said, it's best to not take any medication after its expiration date.

I haven't heard of this happening, but I'm sure it has to someone besides yourself. Maybe there is a problem with your specific prescription. Have you spoken with your pharmacy about it? I hope you get it figured out!
