This medication does not become dangerous, once expired, but it does begin to lose efficacy, so it may not work as well as it did, when new. Thus, it would be best to dispose of it and see your doctor for a new prescription, if one is needed.
The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
