Hydrocodone 5 325 To Acetaminophen
UpdatedMy daughter has been taking hydrocodone 5/325 every 4 hrs since Thurs afternoon. 24 hrs ago, her dr moved it to every 6 hrs, and she took her last one at 615pm last night (it's now 1250a). Can you switch to extra strength, OTC acetaminophen now (500mg tabs)? Or should we wait longer after her last hydrocodone dose? Please advise. Thank you!

You can take up to 3000mg of acetaminophen in a 24hr period. Anymore than that should be under a doctor's care/advice.
According to the FDA, their 'liver warning' goes by a maximum daily dosage of 4,000 mg within a 24-hour period.
This is not to say that you shouldn't consult with your doctor first, but it should allow for substantial flexibility in your dosing.
If you're currently taking 1300mgs a day (325mgs four times daily) then that leaves you with enough wiggle room to double or triple your intake. (1300 x 3 = 3900).
Personally I would consider the idea of opting for something safer like Turmeric in place of more Tylenol, but to each their own and rightfully so.
Hope this helps!
I'm a liver transplant survivor who only uses acetaminophen sparingly. My dr tells me not to exceed 2000 mg daily. I am told that a normal dosage is 3000 daily. Frankly! I'm scared to death of acetaminophen. I've seen a few cases of over doses which required transplants.
I would get off that asap and just take extra strength Tylenol. I had back surgery a year ago and my dr kept me on Norco way too long and I've had some really bad reactions from it. I should only have taken it for two weeks or maybe not at all. It was in my chart that I couldn't take Vicodine which is the same only Norco is a lot stronger. I should have been put on extra strength Tylenol been sooner. It's been a year and I'm still not well. That's my story.
Its actually 2000MGS of acetametaphine in 24 hours. NOT 3000MG.
Both Norco and Vicodin contain acetaminophen and hydrocodone. The only difference is the amount of acetaminophen per tablet. Norco contains 325mg, while Vicoden contains 300mg. They both come in 5, 7.5, and 10 mg of hydrocodone.
Help needed! My doctor prescribe me 2-5mg hydrocodone every 4 hours. But the pain isn't going away and I'm in a lot of pain. Can I take 3 instead of 2? I've called my doctor but the office is now closed.
Re: Mona (# 4)
Sorry, Mona. We will be praying for you, dear.
Be blessed.
Re: Mona (# 4)
Actually it depends. Vicodin is 5 mg of hydrocodone, Norco can be 5, 7.5, or 10 mg of hydrocodone
