How To Wean Off Viibryd
UpdatedI have been on vibryd for about two months now. I have noticed hair loss and some diarrhea. With the diarrhea I have bloating and excessive gas to the point of not being able to control this. Needless to say, I limit my visits with this problem. I take 40MG tabs, so how would I start weaning this? Maybe every other day and then next week skip two days, and etc? i am a healthy 70 yr old and usually have no problems. Deaths of my husband, sister and brother in a 6 mts span started my going on this.

Hi Pat,
Due to the severe nature of withdrawals - In my honest opinion, it would probably be wise to discuss a tapering approach with your doctor that best suits your personal needs.
I know that some medications may be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them. However, your doctor may end up suggesting a different approach depending on the situation. So I would just recommend waiting until you hear back from him/her before moving forward with it.

How long have you been taking this medication for?
I am sorry for your loss and can appreciate your struggle. First and foremost, call the DR that prescribed the Viibryd. Describe your symptoms. Many of us have not been able to tolerate the 40 mg. level, but are doing well on 20 mg. DO NOT make a change without talking to your Dr. FIRST and discussing what's going on. A phone call will often time do the trick. I have requested changes on my dosage twice and did it over the phone. State your symptoms and request to lower the dosage. Hopefully it will help. If the diarrhea has persisted for while you may be getting dehydrated. Keep pushing fluids and, if possible, be more physically active to help alleviate the bloating. Can't stress how important to keep your Dr. in the loop. If it's not working, talk with them and let them adjust the medication to better suit your tolerance!
