How To Stop Taking Contrave

I have been taking contrive for 2 months. I haven't lost any weight on it as I cannot exercise because I need knee replacement surgery. How long before the surgery do I need to discontinue contrave? Even though I am not losing weight, I am feeling better....should I ask my doctor to put me on wellbutrin instead?

Usually surgeons will tell their patients if and when they need to stop taking a specific medication prior to an operation. My understanding is that this should be standard practice on the surgeons part, to at least ask if you if you are on any medications when you fill out forms on your initial visit. If this wasn't done, I would just encourage you to seek out their opinion asap since it's something they need to be made aware of in case of emergency (god forbid) during the procedure.

My other thoughts are that if contrave is helping you to at least feel better, even though it's not necessarily aiding in weight loss, it would solely be up to you if the pros outweighed the cons in terms of staying on it or taking a chance with something else. Something to keep in mind though, is that when it comes to these types of medications, you'll never truly know until you try it, since they tend to affect each person differently.

I am in the same boat- I have been on Contrave for 10 weeks if I lost 2 lbs I am lucky. I cannot exercise and get my heart rate up since I broke my ankle and heel of my foot. I decided to go off due to extreme inability to sleep, constipation, dry mouth and aching all over. I have had it and told my Dr. so - she said take 1 pill for 3 days then off. This is a pill that did zero for me as far as weight loss- I will try weight watchers instead - I hated the side effects.
