How To Reduce Off Keppra

I had one grand mal seizure last year, I was put on 1500 mg of Keppra right away. I had a tumor removed. Problem gone. Neurologist said I have to stay on the Keppra. I hate Keppra. Basically makes any mood I have to tenth degree. Angry is sooo angry and sad is soooo sad and even happy is soooo happy. I can't stand it. I am going to wean off it but I want to know which way would be best. I take 2 at pm and two in the am. should I go 1 at am and 2 at pm or 1-1/2 at each?

If they had to do surgery to remove a tumor, then there is good reason they want you to stay on this, the trauma from the surgery can also create the risk of seizures.

However, the good news is that you don't have to stay on Keppra, if it's causing you such problems. There are others you can try.

My fiancé also had severe issues with Keppra, so they switched him to Oxcarbazepine and he's done well with it, so you may want to ask your doctor about trying a different medication.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.
