I have taken Ativan for like 10 years and then switched the Ativan to Xanax and have been on the Xanax for like 5 years now so I was wondering if I stopped taking it suddenly without tapering off it how long would it stay in your system for?

Up to 42 days and don't quit you must taper off. Find a good Dr. If you try to quit cold turkey after the 2nd or 3rd day you will start feeling withdrawals.
Wow! Your best bet is to check into a facility that specializes. It's next to impossible to do it on your own., Seizure risk, death. I know I'm with you

#Jade L...u must have either gotten the answer by now or if u were taking 14mg for what 6yrs, then u in BIG TROUBLE GIRL! I'll tell you I've been a pharmacist 20 plus years, also a stage 4 cancer patient for 13. I also took 8 mg of Xanax for 20 plus years so I definitely know what I'm talking about? The largest dose ANY ADULT SHOULD TAKE OF ALPRAZOLAM IS 10MG & THAT'S considered the highest dose. Really doesn't matter how long you have been taking it for? The issue is it takes at least six weeks for it to be out of your system and your urine. Very dangerous to just stop taking medication like benzodiazepines. Especially when you've been taking it for that long. You need to be tapered, I'm sure you realize that by now after a few years have gone by since you put that post up. Hope you get the help you need? If anyone needs any other help feel free to ask.
