I was taking ms contin 30 mg for chronic back pain that has not gotten better since I broke my back. The ms contin has not ever worked good for me so my pain Dr switched me to xtampza er 13.5 mg but it does not seem to be working at all. I was wondering how long after taking it is it supposed to start working and is it like the ms contin in that after taking it for a few days will be stronger?

It should start to help within 15 to 20 minutes of taking it, but it is a time released medication, so you will not feel the full effects all at once. Just like the MS Contin, it is slowly released over time.
The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.
How are you doing, now? Has there been any improvement? You might need a dosage adjustment.
