How Long Does It Take Methadone To Work

I've been on methadone liquid now for roughly 3 years, though 60 is the highest ive ever taken, 10 being lowest and it amazes me how strong and powerful this stuff is. I swear i dropped down to 20 and was ready to switch over to subutex, but right at the last minute i bottled it despite my doctor really saying do it, best move you will ever make, but my reasons were i really was so depressed, sweating profoundly, no sleep. Also was coming off a 20 yr valium addiction take away a few yrs in detoxes and rehabs. I'm a londoner uk by the way, nice too meet ya. All good serious website help me. Anyway well instead of swapping over to subs i put my methadone up to 35 then 40 and stopped. Also still dabble with valium and klonopin once a week, stupid really. I gotta gdt off this methadone. It makes me so lazy and bedridden. I'm 44 so would hope to have a good 15 to 20 yrs of life in me, yet im just waiting for a few things as i got a new flat after 3yrs of hell in a hostel prison livin with a manic depressive. I got a lovely little 1 bed flat, just need my benefits and some food and furniture as im starting again then im getting off this s*** once and for all. I really wanna work. I've done a few days here and there on the methadone but nothing to shout about. Ok long enough. Sorry folks i do rabble. It's loneliness honest.

I've been sick this morning and had only taken my methadone 10mins ago. Will it still work as the Dr won't replace it? How long do you have to take methadone before it works?

Hey Jay, this gives me some hope. I’m attempting to use M tablets 54/142 20mg to start to help me get off roxys. Reading your post actually made me a little more comfortable with my choice. I have never taken them before & I pray I can get away from taking entirely too many pills by using this method instead of subs. I don’t have much direction & im going to give it a shot tomorrow. I have a pull form & I’m confused as to whether I swallow them or dissolve them in something. Any help would be great! XX

Methadone is one of the hardest things to quit. I do not know anyone besides myself that has been able to quit after starting. Methadone helped me get off the needle but it was the hardest thing I've ever had to over come. I did a rapid detox bc I was just ready to be done with it but I was in severe withdrawal for about a month, i didn't sleep or eat. My stomach took about a six months to start feeling better...i was on an extremely high dose of 125mg a day though (they didn't regulate it much then in that state) and was on it about two years. Not trying to discourage you but it is possible just extremely difficult bc it lasts so long. I've been off of it for five years now and I'm would never use it as a treatment option again just because i don't think i could get through that again. I'm not sure how bad it is for subs but I'm sure not great. There is nothing really to detox with once on those. Best bet would be to taper down if you can, still feel bad but not unbearable like with the rapid detox.
