How Long Does It Take Doxycycline To Work

Taking doxycycline hyclate 100mg for possible urethritis. Have a 7 day prescription. have taken only one day, 2 pills so far. Woke up this morning and still felt pain urinating. How long does it take or should it take for symptoms to improve, or go away? ?

I'm on day 4 of doxycycline and have seen minimal improvement in my condition. Doesn't hurt when urinating but still have trouble going in the morning. Any thoughts? I thought by now the doxycycline would have cleared up the issue.

John, Good to hear just be sure to complete the full 7 day course so the specific organisms are completely eradicated. Regards, Ken

Finishing 3rd day, decent improvement. 4 days left, hopefully it will work

Hello, John! How are you?

The general rule for antibiotics is that if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking them for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 3 days.

The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.
