How Long Does It Take Doxcycycline To Work For Syphilis
UpdatedI have a past history of syphilis (20 years ago) and was treated. My diagnosis had shown negative up until this year - rpr 1:1 as of 6/30/2017 and Ftb/Abs positive as of 2 weeks ago. As of 8/12/2017 I took doxycycline 100mg twice a day for 14 days. Ftb/abs positive after treatment & contagious.

It could be that you were given the wrong antibiotic, it is usually recommended that it be treated with Penicillin, unless the person is allergic to it. Generally, it only requires one large dose, according to NIH reports.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.
Have you spoken to your doctor about it? Are you on any other medications?
