How Long Does Fentanyl Stay In Your System For?

Updated

I was on 200 mg of fentanyl every 72 hrs for one month and got a urine test 12 days later. It showed up in the results but I did not take anything except my ms contin. Why did this happen? They want to take away my meds.

You're question is kind of confusing...

You said you we're on 200mg for a month did you have a script for it or just for fun?

If you had a script then they wouldn't take away your meds. They'll most likely give you a second chance but make sure you come up clean next time or they will take the morphine away.

I have been reading hundreds of posts about fentanyl only staying in your system for 3 days or 72 hrs, etc.... I am living proof that it CAN stay in your system for MUCH longer. I have been taking very sophisticated drug tests every two days for almost 30 days and just finally showed up clean yesterday!!! I admit I have been somewhat dismayed by all this; however, it's TRUE.

I asked the question because he said it showed up in his system even and he was afraid they would take away his meds.

It's a legit question because if he had a scrip for it he wouldn't have to worry about them taking away his meds hence the reason for my questioning.

As for "who does this for fun" a lot of people do it's not as uncommon as you think and 100MG isn't a lot to people who do drugs.

I wasn't judging him I was asking him a question on why he would think they would take his meds away if he hadn't taken any

You clearly didn't think your answer though before you jumped one me did you? cherrybomb fits you perfectly you blow up prematurely

T its ok that he replied in the manner he did only bc most ppl out there are retarted when it comes to opiate use and addiction. I unfortunatly am an opiate addict but I had a major surgery that lead to this addiction. I used to use 100mg patches for my pain but after yrs of use I grew to become very addicted to painkillers. That guy is an a$$ hole for jumpin on u like that. Your rite a 100 mg patch isnt a lot, nor is 200. Your question was very ligit and your response was appropriate. Perhaps your use of the word fun could have been phrased different ly bc only speaking for myself but I need and require the daily use of opiates each day to not only function but to prevent massive withdrawl. Due to the reacuring pain I feel each day I easly justify my use of opiates but mostly it is to prevent the withdrawl I have come to know a fear. Sometimes more so than death itself.I would never judge a person for there choice of drug use. I agree it is not healthy and painkillers should only be uses for pain but once a person has becomes addicted, unless addresed early the chemical balance in there brain becomes uneven and there body doesn't properly produce the dopeamean required to deal with the pain they feel. Therefor dealing with the pain their body is undergoing becomes intolable. Side note I know I've misspelled a lot of word on here but I don't care. I'm typing on my phone and don't feel like spellchecking it all. If you have an addiction to opiates I would hope that person would seek some sort of help. Weather it be rehab, suboxin, or,methadon. Untill a person is truly ready to seek help through the use of NA or other ppl. They will never quit. I'm not strong willed enough to do it by myself but I know that from person experiance. Once again thank you for your response to their question. I would have asked the same thing.

Katie, I'm sure (or at least pray), you don't want to leave your Dr., as I never would mine. 1) Do you have an open & trusting relationship w/your Dr. Do they listen to you? 2) Have you consider telling your Dr. that you'd like to speak w/another Dr for their opinion? When I first starting going to my Dr over 17 yrs ago, one of the first things he said to me was, "I know my body better than he does". 3)You may be in a state that is not too keen on pain meds. I didn't know it was like that. But I have a friend (in legit pain) who lives in AZ, & she can't get any. She use to when she lived in OH. Talk & Pray

yes it is 100 micrograms of fentanyl is equal to around 250 milligrams of morphine.this stuff is deadly if you miss use it.it will kill a small dog or cat if you just pat it after applying the patch if you don't wash your hands first so don't fool yourself and don't spend all is not that much.

For those of you questioning why he would be worried about mess being taken away- Drs here where I am will discharge you for just about any reason. Including false positives, no second chances. I myself have spinal injuries that prevent me from walking, and completely agree with the fun complaint! Most other people I know suffering from chronic pain and taking deadly medications want nothing more than to be normal again. To not have to take medication just to get through the day. My advice for a provider not providing is to find another who has some understanding of your daily pain. I've been through the ringer myself trying to find a physician who will listen and treat accordingly (not just narcotics btw) that was after 2 years of trying various Drs and medications that had a nice variety of side affects varying from drooping face to throwing up blood. Good luck to all of you, and God bless.

I agree, shouldn't pass judgement. This isn't a f***ing courtroom. It's for advice and possible helpful opinions.

T, they will ( most anyways ) take you off your meds if you are not taking them properly. My Dr texts me once about every 3-4 months to make sure the right amount is in my system. Being that Fentanyl is such a strong drug, sometimes they test more often. Just depends on your Dr and his preference. Some Drs just plain don't give a rats ass as long as you keep coming back.

Tests me, not texts me. My bad.

Train231 just to clarify, narcotic painkillers bind to opiate receptors which are typically bound by special hormones called neurotransmitters. When painkillers are used for a long period of time, the body slows down production of these natural chemicals and makes the body less effective in relieving pain naturally. That is because narcotic painkillers fool the body into thinking it has already produced enough chemicals as there becomes an overabundance of these neurotransmitters in the body. Existing neurotransmitters have nothing to bind with, as the drugs have taken their place on the opiate receptors. Because of this occurrence, the levels of naturally occurring neurotransmitters in the body decreases and the body builds an increased tolerance to the painkillers so more of the substance is needed to produce the same effect. Many of the neurotransmitters that are decreased include natural endorphins that are considered feel-good chemicals in the brain that also help with pain. Therefore, chemical dependency increases and likelihood of addiction increases as the body is unable to produce the natural chemical needed to relieve pain. Not dopamine... I just wanted to clarify.

Whole Lot Of Pain just where in the heck did you hear...or who lied to you and told you that if you "pat" a small dog or cat after applying a Fentanyl patch will kill them? I guess my little Chihuahua is a walking, jumping, playing, zombie...lol. That's just plain crazy and it's because of people like you posting crap like that that nobody can get a strait answer. Jesus I've heard it all yaw...

Jim Jr if you were on Fentanyl for a month, your Dr should have allowed sufficient time for the drug to leave your body. Why not ask them that. I had to stop using my patches before my back surgery because the anesthesiologist told me he was going to use it along with another drug to put me under. It took almost a month (3 weeks) for it to leave my system and at the time I was weighing in at just 108 lbs. and I'm 5'5. It's different for each person. Be strait up with your Dr and ask him why he tested you so early. If you used it as prescribed you shouldn't have to worry. Sometimes the docs need reminding of your case because they see so many people. My Dr gave me the wrong script one time because he pulled up someone else's chart because he thought I was her...lol. I corrected him quick fast and in a hurry.

I had surgery on April 11th and had to go have blood work and you're in for my doctor on April 20th fentanyl showed up in my system and I didn't even know what it was and they took my pain meds away from me and I have hip surgery gym deterioration of the knees and deterioration of the spine and I am just blown away on how they did me the doctors really don't know about obese people and skinny people I think and I am big so I guess it stayed in my system because of me being big I don't understand they need to do more research on it

I got an IV shot of fentanyl 4 times in the afternoon at a hospital after having all my teeth removed. How long will it take to leave my body?

200 is alot. That's probably why it was there for two weeks. Been using long. When I quit my chronic pain management I tested clean after 72 every time. Norco, morphine, oxy. Gotta drink alot of water to flush your system out and combat the dehydration from the VIOLENT toilet painting poo poo's. Or ween off slowly over a 2-3 weeks. I like to cut it in thirds it until I'm almost done kicking. Then very small doses for a few day as needed to control the residual side effects.
