How Long Does Fentanyl Patch Take To Work
Updatedi am on oxycodone 15mg 4 times a day and 30mgs of methadone. I now added a 75mg patch of Fentanyl. Will the patch work? Will i feel the patch? It's been on for 3 hours and i don't feel any different.

I'm on 30 to 40 mgs of methadone daily and 15 mgs of oxycodone daily. I ran out of my meds and cant fill my them until tomorrow. I was given 2 x 75mgs fentanyl patches to use for 24hrs. I can fill my meds tomorrow morning. I used one of the patches and i just put the other one on. Will i have withdrawals or should i be ok for 24 hours? I will have meds at 9:01am tomorrow morning.
@Someone who hurts bad,
Sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately the only way to find out if something will work is to try it. And from an outside perspective it sounds like the 75mcg of Fentanyl simply isn't strong enough to overcome your tolerance to opiates in general. If you're not experiencing the level of relief you desire, it may be worth discussing the option of taking a higher dose with your doctor. I believe Fentanyl is also available in 100mcg, perhaps even higher. Concerning withdrawals, I realize it's been over a month since you last posted. Did you ever end up encountering any withdrawal-like symptoms during the time frame that you were only taking Fentanyl? My first guess would've been no, seeing as you'd only be in transition for a day or so, but if you have any feedback on how that went, I'm sure other readers here would appreciate the insight. I hope all is well with you in the moment!
I was going to put on a 75 on (fen patch) I put on half a 75 the other day and didn't really do anything. Im on 60ml of methadone and use every day will i be sweet to go a full patch.cheers!!
How are you taking oxy & methadone at the same time? Methadone cancels out the oxy and now adding a patch??? I hope you asked your dr if you can mix all that in one day. My uncle died from an oxy and methodone mix, so plz consult a professional.
It may take part of a day to build up in your bloodstream. You should keep on schedule with the patch and take pills as breakthrough pain management (immediate release) as needed when pain exceeds relief provided by patch.
I just wanted to leave a message for anyone trying to cut back on their oxycodone.do it 5 mg every 4 days.i done it that way with not much withdrawals.
So to be blunt, whoever has you on methadone and fentanyl concomitantly is out of their mind or inexperienced; methadone is a long acting (72 hours) and fentanyl when worn is a long acting opiate that can build up over time and will not may but will, force you into central sleep apneas, meaning NO sleep and an enlarged right side of the heart as the heart tries to pump oxygen poor blood through your lungs while you forget to breath; period end of story. First, you need a CPAP (likely a Bi-PAP or AUTO PAP) that will help you at night when your O2 levels are diving down to below 80% at times and waking you up with headaches likely; second, you need to reduce the methadone to next to nothing 5mg, and then if needed up the fentanyl to two 75 mcg or one 100 and one 50, keeping in mind that you will NEVER EVER get off of that dose of fentanyl no matter what AND that if for some reason you ever even start going into withdrawals you must get to a hospital rapidly so they can save your life, because no one over aged 35 is going to survive that detox, no matter what type of person you are you can't just tough it out.
Not trying to be lame, just realistic. Fentanyl if you can stand the ADHESIVE is a long term opiate when administered hourly transdermally, but you must know it can build up with any heat external or internal, and it causes central sleep apnea big time, 100% of the time. Incidentally, if you are a man, it will cause your testosterone level to plummet and stay below 100, and the failure to use supplemental hormones will unfortunately result in sleep disturbances, lack of libido, and fatigue like you've never known.
