How Long Before Testopel Pellets Start Working? (Page 11) (Top voted first)
UpdatedJust had Testopel pellets inserted in my backside. Forgot to ask doctor how long until they take effect. He's out of town.
Ginger, just wanted to post that yes women too have problems with testosterone production. Several years ago mine bottomed out and was on the shots for about 6 months, course it didn't help that thyroid bottomed out at the same time. Now my husband is having problems with his testosterone, last level checked was 72.. Had testopel inserted on Monday and had 14 pellets. He has said the insertion site is extremely sore but is willing to deal with that if he can just get to feeling better. He has been extremely fatigued for months and has tried all the gels, compounding and only one shot before to Dr said we are gonna try the pellets. I hope this works for him as he is irritable and so very tired. I read somewhere that low zinc levels also contribute to low testosterone. Anyone know anything about this?
Yes they do. Zinc is also good for over all well being. IMO, every 40+ guy should be taking a zinc supplement, but that is just my opinion. Chances are that the pellets will work as they work for most....just not me :)
Good luck
Alena, pellets are available for women, but the dosing is very different. Testopel is off label for women. Did insurance cover all 14 pellets for your husband? I've heard varying stories on what they will pay for. I know they cost $65 per 75mg pellet, just not sure if they pay when dosed off label. Recommended dosing is 6 pellets every 2-3 months. The kind I use lasts 5-6 months for men and 4-5 months for women. I get mine done at exactly 5 months and cost is $325 for women. The BioTE practitioners also manage their patients thyroid and vitamin D.
Erectile problem? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of this treatment?
I just had 10ea 750 put in last week, the third day i got this big bruise and hurt really bad, now ive been thru alot of operations with alot of pain , but i felt like there was a 22 bullet stuck in there, then it got infected and started antibotics about three days ago and still have the pain. i have a well trusted and highly recommended urologist that ive been seeing for years. i was on androgel 2 pumps each shoulder for about a year. Levels were up to about 400 but had no free testosterone available so the doc recommended changing to testerol pellets. Results after one week, maybe a better since of well being, not any energy boost or major sexual changes, was already getting decent erections from gel, maybe the libido up a tad but not that noticable yet, if i dont get any better results it wont be worth this pain again. I know i'am going to get thatt wimp stuff but after one back fusion and neck fusion i think my pain levels is pretty good. Anyway, i feel for those who said they had pain, but my brain said go with the guys that said it barely hurt for a day or two, Actually the procedure was painless just a little pressure and the next day was too, but the third day the bruise appeared and wow then it started to hurt the infection isnt that bad but iam sure it adds to the brusing and why its sensitive. Also i can feel where the pellets are its pretty obvious to me. will go get first blood work in two weeks and then ill know whats going on compared to the gel. I was really hoping for a energy boost more then correcting the ED stuff with the low free testerone i figured i would feel better maybe its still to soon
Just passed week 2 and everything below my waste feels non existent. No sex drive, no hard erections, nothing. I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow and scream at him. The injections worked great and i told him that. He implanted 12 pellets avd not once since the implants habe i felt any improvement. This is complete BS.
Don't give up on the pellets, testopel is not your only option for pellets. Please research other pellet options such as BioTE. They may not be in your area yet, but should be soon. They are rapidly expanding because they work!
I changed doctors and my new one injected me with lidocaine which burned and then injected the Testopel and stitched my insertion point. The previous doctor did not use lidocaine or stitches. Now my but is sore.
Using lidocaine with epi reduces bruising and adding sodium bicarbonate to the lido reduces the sting....as I have said over and over....you have to find the right method! From what I've been told, Testopel Pharm reps don't do much in the way of training....BioTE does....
Thanks Ginger. Maybe my former doctor used the method you suggested because I did not feel the burning pain and instead of stitches he used steristrips .
I have had 3 testopel treatments; once every 4 months. My T levels rose greatly.
But on the flip side, my PSA level has risen too, regretably. My doc called to tell me that he thinks I should have a biopsy done on my prostate. Thats a very scary thing to go thru. So, if the pellets are the cause of this, then I regret having this treament from the outset.
Agree with what Ginger said. HRT will accelerate, not cause. Have more tests done. I would recommend a colonoscopy (sp?). Not as bad as you would think. You are asleep and they give you the once over and you will know for sure. Better to be safe than sorry...or stressing of the unknown. Good luck.
you may have already done this but if not, do some local searching online for doctors in your area for reviews and for your issues specifically. With me and I think most, it also turns into a psycological issue which I think is worse because you cannot turn the mind off. I wouldn't think that your entire package would shrink, just the testicles as they are usually producing the test...which is now being supplies to the body artificially, which is obviously why they shrink.
Good luck.
Joseph, your Dr should do a complete work up on your hormones....including Estradiol. If you are an aromatizer (meaning your body makes an enzyme that converts testosterone into estrogen) he needs to monitor that and treat with femora or arimidex to block the enzyme. Men need estrogen, just not too much. Please don't give up on the pellet therapy, just search for other options besides Testopel. I've mentioned the BHRT pellet therapy that I think is the best and I am a patient, as well as a physician liaison for the company. I won't mention the name again, as I was admonished for doing so. But they do have a 95% retention rate, and that alone tells you if done properly, it works! DIM (diindolymethane) will reduce testicle shrinkage by increasing your LH. DIM also has many other benefits for patients on BHRT.
Justin: To hopefully alleviate your fears, the prostate biopsy isn't all that bad. I had one three (3) years ago and the apprehension of what it 'might' be like was far-r-rrr worse that the procedure itself. You feel a bit of a "pinch" and hear a 'clicking sound' each time a sample is snipped. I had 28 different spots checked/snipped as Doc wanted to make sure that he covered the entire prostate.
Also -- PUH-leeze .............. be careful if you have any prostate infection. I had an ongoing one for over two years and finally pain in my testicle was so bad and debilitating that I had to have my testicle removed. All of this after being on every antibiotic possible over the 2 years with no results. So .................. if you EVER have a prostate infection, do everything possible to make sure you are addressing that problem aggressively as possible. I still have infections, but am hoping we will not have to remove remaining testicle.
Mike, i know you are using injections, and have been on here a while, others too, please comment
After going 2 months without being able to get my testopel, Dr. canceled my early june app, vacation, just got into to see him today. Anyway , I'm going to try the injections, give them myself, weekly. The compounding pharmacy, where I get my Test. cream, to use when I'm waiting for the Dr, by the way, is useless, for me anyway, I dropped down to 186, knew I felt bad, went online and ordered a test.. test.
Anyway, the pharmacy recommended I go to the shots. Said a lot cheaper, and if I give them to myself, weekly, will not experiance the surges and valleys that happen when you try to space the shots out longer.
Dr. says will some have more trouble with elevated red blood count, and was OK with it, but you could tell he wished I would stay on Testopel, more $$$.
So he gave me a shot today, how long for that to kick in? I assume faster than the pellets. He applogized for being unable to see me last month.
For info, I've done great on Testopel, my level was 150, when I first started , in march 2012. started with 10, then went to 12 pellets. Maintained in the 700-800 range. Only will last me about 3 to 3.5 months top. I'm 53, good shape, weight. Lost about 20 pounds, since I started . Gained 6-8 back these last 2 months. But the hassle of having to have 2 appointments, first a consult, then the implant. And the cost, I'm going to try the injections. I have read the posts about the Biote, by ginger.I called and talked to the closet place that does it, 165 miles. It's cheaper than Testopel, and was ready to try it, until I talked to the pharmacist. Still may take my wife there. No Dr's here will use Test therapy on women
James,
Do you mind telling what the pharmacist said that changed your mind about bioTE? And yes, many drs and pharmacists are unsure and hesitant about Testosterone therapy for women, even though their bodies produce it and need it, just not at the levels that men do. Women can start losing their T as early as mid-late 20's. I can look back and know by my symptoms, I had stopped producing T when I was around 34, and just assumed it was the aging process. Women produce T in their adrenals, but mostly at the center of their ovaries, and when a woman's ovaries begin to "die off" they die from the inside out. 165 miles sounds pretty far, but you should only have to have the procedure done twice a year. Your wife may need it up to 3 times though. I swear (although I may not look it), I feel 23 again! Also, keep in mind that we are training around 30-35 new practitioners each month, so hopefully there will eventually be one closer.
She didn't change my mind. I mentioned Biote, she, the pharmacist, had heard about it. Nothing bad to say at all. My decision was based on cost. The injections will cost me about $55.00 a month.
We'll see how it goes. I still plan on taking my wife there
Thx James, and if I can help in any way, let me know. Just be careful about "stacking" the injections...they should help relieve your symptoms and you have a better chance of getting your T to an optimal range. They don't provide the long term benefits that the Bioidentical pellets do, but you will need to weigh that decision out for yourself. And just as an FYI, BioTE provides paperwork for you to file for reimbursement for out of pocket from your insurance (if you have insurance) and some are paying 100% surprisingly....best wishes!
Have your estrogen checked - sounds like your testosterone has been transferred over to estrogen
