How Long After Taking Kratom Can You Take Suboxone (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Updated

Hi I have been on suboxone for four weeks, before that I was on methadone for five years. I decided to try kratom to stop the suboxone but it isn't really doing much and I feel really lethargic and headaches. I took about 4-5gram of kratom at 8am, it's now 1:40pm"..I want to take some suboxone, will I get sick? Precipitated withdrawals? I've seen some people say they take suboxone after kratom and are fine, but, there isn't much out there on the topic. I just don't wanna get sick for I have a three ur old boy and Christmas is in two days

Kratom works on the mu opioid, kappa and delta receptors. However, it seems to “clog” the receptors for a few days after use. Therefore, opioids don’t seem to work as well while on or immediately after use of Kratom. Chris McCurdy at University of Florida is leading expert on Kratom and has probably studied it more than anyone in the world. I think they just got a grant from gov to study it again. Look him up and read his articles if u want to know about Kratom.

Re: Gigi (# 41) Expand Referenced Message

Hello Gigi and Everyone, sucks there isn't much data on Kratom, but from all my research from "independent" sources lol, it seems like Kratom and Subs can work. I've been doing days of research for myself. Long story short: Broke my back, Dr gave me percs. He kept giving them, i kept taking...Dr cut me off, went to the streets, found Roc's, was taking them for years. I know this is going to sound insane, but I would take 5 30mg Rocs at a time, twice a day.... Finally went on Subs, feel off subs back to rocs, back on subs. Been "clean" of Perc and Roc for 4yrs now, but been on Subs for that entire time. I don't take much sub anymore, 8mg strip but I cut it up and take half in morning, half at night. I really want to kick this and just get off everything but its freaking hard as a lot of you already know. I got Red Bali and Green Kratom last week. Honestly I'm scared to take it while on subs or ever after subs. From what I'm reading its ok... but I've been in PWD before and I wanted to kill myself. I'm so scared of that happening. My last 4mg sub was 11pm last night, its been 13hrs since I had any sub. Do you think the Kratom would be ok? Thank you

Re: Jax (# 46) Expand Referenced Message

Wish I could answer that, I'm in the same boat. My only attempt at Kratom so far was the day after taking 1 8mg strip. I broke the strip up into half and did half in morning rest at like 11pm. Slept late and woke up around 2pm. Over 12 hrs with no sub. I tried 1gram of green DA Kratom. Didn't feel anything. Took sub like an hour after and was fine. I know I need to take more Kratom and I have Red Bali now, just scared to mix.

I have taken tons of Kratom (not anymore cuz it hurt my stomach) but it intensified the subutex I’m prescribed to. There is no reason to take kratom if you get suboxone or subutex. I’ve never had a bad experience mixing them, but taking them on their own ripped up my stomach bad.

Also you will find the Kratom Support Groups are singularly THEE most educated researchers as users. Far more than ANY doctors. They are not spoon fed by the DEA, CDC, or FDA and read relentlessly and use each other by the thousands to get to the truth on Kratom. I consider them the real clinical trials on Kratom without the bias and games of clinical trials.

Re: Emily (# 1) Expand Referenced Message
Hi! I’m just now seeing your question. I also am on Suboxone for chronic migraine (PLUS 0.25 mgs of Xanax - 6X per day) I’ve had chronic, intractable migraines for about 40 years. Been on many different meds but this combination is working the best! So, my question is what are you taking Suboxone for? Chronic Pain, Chronic Migraines?? I think it makes a difference what chronic pain you’re dealing with if Suboxone will work for you!! Oh btw, I take 3 - 8 mg/2mg strips per day along with the Xanax.

You're so lucky. What dose are you on? 4 weeks is nothing you should be fine. I was on it over 4 years. I had severe withdrawals for months and the depression and tiredness could last for years. You may have mild withdrawals if your on a low dose just taper if you can. If you're on 8 ml. break it up and taper. I’m telling you I’m a professional with this. It’s the worst drug ever. Don’t keep taking it. The withdrawals are worse than any other drug. Even Heroin. I promise it will take over your life and you won’t be able to live without it. And sometimes you lose pills or if you have to break them in half they turn into powder. They are tiny especially the lower you go. Will the doctor refill your script. Nope because he doesn’t make mistakes I guess. Within the 4 years I went without a handful of times and had complete withdrawals but never went back to pain pills. I didn’t wanna depend on something. I hope you're fine and off of it.

Re: BluntTruth (# 11) Expand Referenced Message

I ran out of subs and took Kratom for a couple days and took it up until 2 hrs of getting a Suboxone, when I finally got one and I was fine. Kratom and sub hit the same opiate receptors in the brain and don’t put you into double withdrawal.

How soon can I start Suboxone after last dose of kratom?

I just started Suboxone yesterday. 8mg once daily. The clinician I saw told me that it would not cause precipitated withdrawals if I took the Suboxone the same day I took Kratom, even if I was not in active withdrawals. I heeded her advice and took a tablet and found that she was correct in what she had told me. No withdrawals. Best of luck to you.

Glad to hear that you're doing well Emily... I agree with Woody's comment on the lack of feedback, possibly due to the unregulated nature of kratom and how it interacts with pharmaceuticals. However, one thing I can say from personal experience with kratom is that if you took it at 8am it would've at least been on it's tail end of "working" 6 hours later; so odds are whatever interaction it could've had is prone to be negligible in my opinion. There's also a lot of research on PubMed relating to cannabis and pain relief, but I would actually argue that kratom is a better pain reliever by up to 50% or more in my own personal judgement/experience; so maybe synergism is the answer there? Nevertheless, it's always nice to hear about others finding success in the realm in natural alternatives.

Re: BluntTruth (# 11) Expand Referenced Message

No the naloxone in the sub is so you won't administer it intravenously. The buprenorphine is what blocks anything else because it doesn't let anything else on your receptors. If you give any advice know your s*** please.

It seems like no one can really answer the questions. I think cannabis is the best pain killer for a suboxone patient and ex opiate addict. The switching back and forth is too risky . Trust me

Emily,

It's exceedingly unhealthy to transition and bounce back and forth between these powerful medications. Kratom is fairly new in the use as an adjunct to a detoxification protocol. Although this herb/plant has been used for hundreds of years overseas praised for its cns stimulant properties, many derive benefits for many conditions including pain management. As for methadone and suboxone/subutex they can have effects for years following cessation. Protracted Withdrawal syndrome is a phenomenon where brain chemistry has a difficult time returning to a pre opiate use state. These can include headache, lethargy, fatigue and GI distress to name a few. These are just a few examples of why trained medical providers are recommended when use of opioid replacement therapy is considered. I hope this gives you some perspective into the complexity of issues that MAY be encountered when treatment commences. I wish you the best.

Worse...look and I've noticed no one understands or answers the question right...It is "can you take sub with kratom in your system?" I just took kratom 2 hrs ago and i'm willing to bet if i take a sub i will get WDs but no one has answered this question yet. If you aren't ahead don't comment b/c you're giving bad advice if you don't have personal experience.

8 am kratom dose it is out of your system if you took the sub at 2:30 pm ... that is, you were fine but i have yet to see anyone say they took kratom. It wasn't working so they took suboxone, not subutex, an hour later.. Of course subutex is, fine it doesn't have the blocker naloxone in it. I seen one person on another forum say naloxone was just to make sure you couldn't break the suboxone pill down and do anything with it like abuse it.... Well that is bs. I take suboxone every day just about, and the naloxone is so you cant abuse anything else, like you won't feel, it so what is the point... That is what naloxone/blocker does....
