Hi Debbie,

Sorry to hear about your tooth infection. I'm actually in the same boat as you, getting an extraction in the next month or so for an infected wisdom tooth. Most people get them taken out when they're young, but at age 25 I guess it's better late than never Lol.

At any rate, most antibiotics such as Clindamycin, are often prescribed for 7-10 days, depending on the severity of the infection. But my guess is that the vast majority of the infection may be eradicated well within the parameters of that time frame, especially closer to the 7th day mark, when many patients are actually finished with their prescription.

Some people feel that if you stop an antibiotic short of the prescribed amount of days that the infection will come back if it is not completely killed off, but if you're only 1 day away from completion, my personal opinion is that it should be fine at that point in time since there will probably still be some percentage of it left working in your body even after your last dose the day before.

What does your dentist think about this?
