How Early Can I Refill If My Doc Did Not Put A Date On Script

I have stage 3 lung cancer and i am prescribed oxycodone 30mg. My doc did not put a fill by date on my prescription. May I fill early?

Just because he didn't put that date on there, doesn't change when you can have it filled. Pharmacies keep track of the days supply each prescription should provide and it is very strict, when it comes to controlled substances.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

I am very sorry about your lung cancer. If your current dosing isn't handling your pain, you should speak to your doctor, you are among those on the exceptions list who can be prescribed more.

I have had my scripts filled up to 7 days early when my doctor does not put in a date.Its the 30 days on the prescription that licks you in.Also they can fill it early and reduce your new script by the days you have left.They can reduce the number of pills they give you.

Well with no fill date especially on a schedule 2 they may not fill. I know in VA. Where I am they won't. U need that date

Good morning. If your doctor did not put a fill date on it like some doctors will put a date, a 30-day supply, some pharmacies will fill it two days early. if it's a 28-day supply they will only do it one day early. Walmart is really good about filling a 30-day supply 2 days early and a 28-day one day early. But with the new laws, stay away from CVS. Good luck and I'm so sorry about your lung cancer. CVS is now definitely the New FBI / DEA. They're horrible from what I've been told and from what I have read. Just go to Walmart. And you should be okay.

His MISTAKE, have someone take it to his office and call pharmacy and tell them my friend is "Sally" and she will show U her lic, and pick up ,my med. Happened before,.....Doctors problem s/b fixed immediately. Blessings Sweetheart.

You should always fill your scripts on whatever day you know is acceptable to your particular doctor. Some doctors want you to wait til the 30th day and I have seen others that have no problem with day 28. If you fill early, it stays on your record and these are the very types of things that your doctor may use to decide whether or not he can trust you. Some offices will go back and check your fill dates at certain intervals so just because they don't see it right away doesn't mean they won't notice down the road. Being honest can pay off big time in end.

I just reread your original post and must apologize. You indeed are the exception to the rule. By all means if your meds are not handling your pain causing you to run out early, get with your doctor and have him make the necessary changes to keep you comfortable. Mercy LORD....tis woman has stage 3 Lung CA...give her anything she wants when she wants it for pain !!!! Your medication is probably to low for your pain level. Call your prescribing Doctor and alert them that you are suffering. No one w/CA should suffer a minute longer than they have to Period.

I totally agree with you. I apologized to the OP for sounding uncaring. I was looking at multiple sites and my computer is slow so by the time I got to post I truly forgot that she was the cancer patient. You are so right that she should not have to endure one moments pain. Hopefully she can talk to her doctor and get better pain coverage. Again so sorry for the mistake.

I know in Pennsylvania with schedule 2 and 3 drugs if there is not a date on it most pharmacies will not fill it. It will make you go back to the doctor and have them put a date on it so please be careful and call your doctor first as so not to waste any time. So sorry to hear about the lung cancer and hope the medicine is helping and hope your treatment helps you my dear.

When I did it before I had insurance I got lucky and could usually get it a week if I didn't press it too often. But now with insurance 2 days is about all they will let you. And if you say nevermind the insurance I'll pay cash then they really won't do it

Usually they will fill it 2 days early, but all pharmacies are different. It depends on the laws in your state also.

A lot depends on the pharmacy you use and the state you're in. Most places is two days early but some may only let you fill the day before it's due. Some insurances won't let you fill it more than two days early. Good luck in your battle against cancer and God bless.

I'm guessing the long acting med is a 12 hour pill. These pills need time to start their extended release. A short acting pill should be taken with the long acting pill and in the middle of the 12 hour regime.

It might be a good idea to talk to your doctor and find out his reasoning. That seems like a lot of medication to be taking. No wonder you're feeling like that.

God bless you. My dad passed of brain and lung cancer. Fortunately the tumors in his brain Apparently reduced his ability to feel pain. But eventually it did get to the point where it got really bad. And you’re absolutely correct. There are exceptions for cancer patients. There are exceptions for patients with sickle cell anemia as well. There are certain diseases that your doctors can write you something stronger and the pharmacy will fill it. Good luck and I’m sorry to hear about your pain.

Speak with your doctor. Obviously your cancer pain needs something more effective. Doctors have much leeway when prescribing for painful cancer. My dad died of lung cancer and it metastasized to his brain. He has patches. Plus liquid morphine for breakthrough. Plus less potent opioids for everyday use. There were painful days and worse days and awful days.

Speak with your doctor about adequate daily pain relief along with breakthrough cancer pain. But pharmacies can also speak to your doctor on tit behalf. You are allowed up to 7 days early for the lifetime of a script.

If you ran out early. Have your doctor yo the dose and they will fill.

There are strict databases. No loopholes as people are suggesting. Also varies on the compassion of the pharmacist to help you and be part of your treatment team!!! They should be. Pharm D’s, They sometimes work in conjunction w/ cancer docs to help you. Best of luck. Please let me know how you do. If you have the energy.
