Help With Generic Wellbutrin (Top voted first)
UpdatedHi I am hoping to start wellbutrin xl next monday..I'm rather nervous & I hope you guys dont mind if I ask some questions..
1- I have pretty much accepted that brand name is out of the question..I have the option of going to CVS that has watsons brand, Walgreens that has Mylan, or Wal Mart that has Activas (ps..I'm not looking at my notes & am trying my best to remember the names so please ignore my bad spelling :] )
Which off brand has worked best for you..so far I'm leaning towards the Watson..but would love some more feed back
2- I do not think I will be able to function at all if this makes me gain weight, especially since most of my depression & issue is my weight...has anyone had any weight gain from the generic?
3- I live in TX & have blue cross..I called them & they said in order for them to cover the name brand I'd have to get it a letter from my Dr & have it approved by them..has anyone had any luck with this?
4- This is my 1st antidepressant & I'm going to my OBGYN to get started. I plan on telling her flat out I want to try wellbutrin 1st..but I cant help but worry that she'll say no & give me a hard time. We're not exactly close, but shes my only option right now & I guess my question is, how much luck have you had with getting your way with drs? Is wellbutrin pretty well known/popular? I'd like to think that she would be willing to work with me, but like I said, we're not very close & shes been pretty smug in the past (smug might not be the best word for it..I guess shes just always busy & I never feel like shes listening) in the past so...I'm a bit nervous about it.
I'd love any & all feedback...please & thank you

I started on 150 mg of buproprion xl for one week and then doubled it. The script came from Walgreen's, and it was Anchen. When it was time to get my new prescription, I asked for 300 mg. of Wellbutrin XL after reading all the forums about the drug, thinking it would be so much better. It was not. The Anchen worked just as well for me and it was about $300 cheaper. Recently my doctor changed me to 150 mg. of bupropion sr twice a day, and it is Mylan from Walgreen's. Again, it is just as good for me as my experience with the name brand.
Why are you going to your OB Gyn for it?
That may create a problem right there and she may very well not be willing to prescribe it. Usually, you need a GP for such medications or a psych specialist.

Additionally, neither Walgreens nor Wal-Mart may have the ones from those generic manufacturers in stock, if/when you do go in to get it filled. That can change at any time according to when they run out, need to restock and whatever manufacturer is offering the cheapest price at that time.
And really, any time you go in asking a doctor for a specific medication, they do consider that to be suspicious behavior, unless it's an innocuous medication that you've already taken in the past that's shown in your medical records.
Regardless of which one anyone says worked well for them, between the manufacturers you listed or the name brand, it may not work the same for you, since everyone is different.
Do you have a GP that you could see about it?
