They can be taken together, if they have both been prescribed for you, but the Ranexa may increase the effects of the Metoprolol, so you may need a dosage adjustment and your doctor should be monitoring you regularly to watch for any problems, as warned by the NIH.

The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.
