tripoline was prescribeb for headaches that occurred in my sleep from midnight onwards added that I should stop using any painkillers.It did work for about a month but the headaches have returned and the use of tripoline now causes heavy drowsiness the following day

Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant.
That said, while it is sometimes prescribed off-label for headaches, it can also cause them in some people as a side effect.
The drowsiness can also be a side effects, but it could also be due to sleep disruption from the headaches or both.
Have you spoken to your doctor about the problem?
