Having Trouble Finding A Doctor Who Will Prescribe Oxycodone
UpdatedI have been taking oxycodone for several years and my doctor retired. Now I am having serious problems finding a doctor who will prescribe the same medication. What do I do when something works so well and now I can't get it prescribed to me. The pain clinic I went to after my doctor retired said I didn't look like a oxy man.

Hi! Sorry about the problem that you're having.
How are you going about looking for a doctor to prescribe it?
If you're going in for your first appointment specifically asking for Oxycodone, that could be creating the problem right there, since most doctors will consider that to be drug seeking behavior.
The same may be true if you're calling and asking if they'll prescribe it, before you're even an established patient.
What you should do is set up an appointment and make sure that they get a full copy of your most recent medical records. Once they can see what has and hasn't worked for you, as documented by a fellow physician, they will be more at ease about prescribing accordingly.
Can you post back with your general location?
That may enable someone to recommend a good doctor in the area.
mankind I too cannot get any oxy only oxy er and I declined that because mscontin does work for me. even for my breakthrough I can only get lortab no Percocet oxycodone Ir in any form. i'm ok with that because of the mscontin my pm just told me we will try other things but will not write me for them either, idk whats going on and this is happening across the US don't get me wrong some ppl still get them I just am not one of them, good luck to you
I am located in the central part of ky. The lexington area. When I have went to my appointments I always take me medication list with me to show the doctors what I have been taking and how long I have been prescribed the medication. I am currently waiting on coventry cares of ky to approve a new mri and also have had no luck they have denied me numerous times and I am almost to the point of saying the hell with it! The government is slowly making it to where they are going to start telling us how and what to do,telling us if we are in pain or not. Adventually we won't have any rights in this country! Other then the right to live how they tell us to live!
Can you please HELP? ! ? I have been on pain medication for the last ten+ years. I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. I was in a very serious auto accident about ten years ago and lost my patella & patellar ligament, which they have tried to replace with cadaver ligaments three times and have had a total of eight surgeries during that time period. I have fallen twice and broken one disk and shattered another at L2 and L5. I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand last week and on my left hand last year. I'm frustrated with the medical system and many of the doctors in Springfield, Missouri. Can you please help?
Welcome to my world, you are a special person. I cant believe wall that your suffering from and they will not give you anything for pain. They want to cut us all off the opiates but then don't have a back up for Chronic pain sufferers. I live in Springfield MO area and your right, my husband is suffering so bad he cant even work, can barely get out of bed. We just moved here and never even thought about the medical field being so bad here. All you people out there, remember if you are planning on moving here, you will not get any pain meds even when you have been on meds for 20yrs. Our quality of life will be gone. My husbands quality of life is so sad to watch. I curse all these people that are making things bad for the true pain sufferers. God bless the pain sufferers.
Re: Melayne (# 4)
I am so sorry, Melayne, I understand your struggle. I recently moved to Springfield & highly recommend Elite Pain management on Primrose street. I went thru a very rough adjustment time but the doctors there were kind & actually listened to me. Bring your medical records they are rather expensive but compared to no quality of life it's an easy choice. God bless you
That infuriates me to hear that!! You don't LOOK like an oxy man!!?!? I have an excruciatingly painful female disorder that is invisible until one sees my medical records. I was prescribed Dolophine for 8 years after all other meds caused me such grief with side effects. I thought I was going to lose my mind until after multiple tries we found this medication. Sadly thanks to new laws I cannot have it now that I am Springfield mo. Their solution was to take my one effective medication & replace it with 4 other prescriptions, it was a nightmare, I am currently on a morphine/ dilaudid combo that does increase my quality of life, but the cost in side effects on my body is brutal. My piont is the stigma surrounding Dolophine ( a form of methadone) was heartbreaking, literally felt ashamed to tell anyone I was taking it. I am very sorry for people with addiction issues, I cannot relate but they make life very very hard for pain management patients. The government is increasingly dictating what can be prescribed... as a very last resort I am being forced to have a full hysterectomy to try & escape pain management. There is no gaurantee but I pray it is the life changer they claim. Best of luck to you
