It would be more accurate to say that pain in the mouth might be the sign of an infection, because pain could also be caused by issues other than an infection.

The tablet with this marking is a generic for Bactrim, which is an antibiotic that's used to treat various types of infections and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and non-allergic skin rash.

However, you should't take it, unless your doctor or dentist has instructed you to do so. If you don't have an infection, taking it creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. This is also a possibility if you do have an infection, but don't have enough of the antibiotic to complete a full course of treatment.

Additionally, you do need to see a dentist if you have pain and/or an infection from a dental issue, while an antibiotic can eradicate the infection, if there is an underlying cause, such as a severe cavity, then it will just keep returning, if left untreated.
