Can this "h49" antibiotic be used to treat an abscess in the arm? Idk what kind of antibiotic the doctor prescribes for this issue so I'm wondering if these would help?

Re: Someone needing treatment (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Well I first want to be clear that I am not a doctor or health care professional, however as a recovering drug addict who (in the past) has had her fair share of trips to uc, er, minute clinics, and detoxes to be treated for everything from withdrawal seizures, to EVERY KIND OF lumps, bumps, abscesses etc... SO sorry I'm digressing so YOU COULD SKIP ALL THE IRRELEVANT INFO ABOVE AND GET YOUR ANSWER HERE.....I was prescribed it more than a few times. The first time was for cellulitis that was caused from a small abscess; another time I had the biggest and most painful abscess I had ever had. I thought they were gonna have to cut out a kiwi-sized abscess, because I thought it had for surely at the minimum...damaged skin and muscle tissue, not to mention the huge puss bump on that. BUT LUCKILY I was so scared and obviously paranoid that I may lose my entire arm.

So this is what I did, and would recommend.......Hot as you can tolerate compressions with clean water & clean wash cloth/sponge etc. or if you feel alot of pain and it's hurting while sttempting compressions, then skip the cloth/sponge all together and soak where the bump/abscess/infected raised area etc is....for at least 10 mins, or in my case, I did it til the top layers of skin were kinda..."pruney/wrinkley"lol idk if that's an accurate description but you know what your skin looks like after being in water for some time....once you think your skins good and saturated with clean warm water, wash with soap rinse again, make sure no soap or residue is on infected area...should be just clean and saturated....then glob on triple antibiotic ointment (Neosporin would work too) as long as no part of the wound is open, cover entire area so it's all covered, wear a loose long sleeve, or if no shirt or t-shirt, recommend doing as i did, AM after shower/bath, and then as I dedcribed same night......let that ointment do its thing. Began the pills the same day, I started them in afternoon, in between the washing/ointment treatment...

My results- after having this painful hideous lump for almost 3 weeks, after doing the home remedy with the water and ointment that (I just happen to think may help, & if it didn't who cares, I tried) abscess was down from golf ball side to maybe half of a peanut size in 4 days. I took pills till it said to, however, once it was gone instead of taking the pills 3x daily I did 2x daily and saved just a couple in case I missed a teeny tiny bit in the future...DON'T DO THIS, THANKFULLY I GOT LUCKY, MY INFECTION WAS HEALED AND ALL GONE BUT, IT COULD LOOK FINE, or even FULLY CURED AND GONE, BUT BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN HAVING TO GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE ORDEAL AGAIN, and sometimes when just a small area is still infected and the minority is healed, it can spread in the same, other or both directions. Then you have to COME BACK to the DR for an even worse situation and MAKE NO MISTAKE YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY LOSE FINGERS, HANDS ARMS LEGS ETC IF AN infection is left untreated, also can get cellulitis with it, and yes people do and can die from that as well.... SO PLEASE.....TAKE ALL THE PILLS!!! IF AND ONLY IF for some reason you followed your meds directions and my remedy try the antibiotic creme/gel 3x a day, just make sure to not cover it after applying the antibiotic creme....let the creme seep into the infected area it will also help repair damaged skin....

Good luck!! Hope it works as well as it did for me!!

Hello, Ed! How are you?

This is a antibiotic which contains 800mgs of Sulfamethoxazole and 160mgs of Trimethoprim, side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

So yes, it is used to treat bacterial infections. Is there anything else I can help with?
