Glutamine And Pregnancy
UpdatedI drank a protein shake for breakfast every morning that contained 5,083 mg of L-Glutamine during my first trimester. I was unaware of the harmful effects L-Glutamine supplements could have on the fetus. Do u think I hurt the baby in any way? I've heard that to much L-Glutamine in the form of supplements can cause retardation in the fetus.

Hello, Heather! How are you? Congratulations on the baby!
It would be best to let your doctor know that you took it, that way they can watch for any possible problems.
However, there have not actually been any studies done in humans, so if there is any risk from taking it, it's unknown, according to the FDA. They list it as being pregnancy category C, which means that while risk isn't proven, it also cannot be ruled out.
Does anyone know more?
