Getting Off Fentenyl Patch

How long will it take and how dangerous to me . I have been on same 100 Mcgraw for approx 15 years for degeneration of disc , spinal stenois, 3 back surgeries at 4 levels and still some herniation going on but done with surgeries that just make it even worse and oh yea I also have knee damage in both knees but can still pop back into place not as painful as back.

Hello, Annie! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain.

If you were on it for that many years, it will likely take several months to do a proper slow and safe taper. This is a very potent narcotic, over 80 times stronger than Morphine, so you have to stop it very slowly, to avoid severe withdrawal symptoms and rebound pain.

However, by working with your doctor, you can set up a proper tapering schedule and they can prescribe lower dose patches to help you taper off of them.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Have you consulted your doctor about this, yet?
