Has anyone on here had gastric bypass and used zohydro for chronic pain and had success? My problem is my meds never last as long as they are supposed to for my chronic pain. which is also a result from my gastric bypass, abscess, and thoracic surgery in 2003. miserable most days

Usually, when someone has had a gastric bypass, a time released oral medication, such as Zohydro, isn't the best bet, because they don't stay in the GI tract long enough for you to get the full benefit of the medication.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

That said, you may want to ask your doctor about trying one of the skin patches, such as Fentanyl. It is a very potent narcotic analgesic that is released slowly over a period of 3 days and since it is absorbed through the skin, it avoids the GI tract issue.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?
