Gaining Weight Using Diuretics

I have cirrosis and I had a distended stomach due to fluid build up in my abdomen.My doctor started me on diuretics and eventually my stomach became flat but I'm down to 130 lbs and stand at 6' 1". Is it possible to gain weight and remain on the diuretics or do you have to stop taking them?

Yes, you can gain weight on them, it just won't be weight due to fluid retention, it has to be due to healthy practices. If you are eating well and still not gaining, you should consult your doctor, as you may require a dosage adjustment, or a different medication. The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension, and dehydration.
