Gabapentin/dark Spots

I'm taking gabapentin 300. I've been on it for the last 5 years to help decrease my rsd pain. I've met several other woman who use this drug and who have experienced the same side effect of causing dark spots on their cheeks. Is it the gabapentin causing this? I'd really like to find out, because, I had lost my insurance for 5months and was off the drug. To my surprise, the dark spots lightened up all the while I was off of it. Now that I am able to see my Dr. again, he wants me to start taking this drug again. Is their any medical research study shown that gabapentin causes facial dark spots.

Yes, the FDA does list skin discolorations as being a possible side effect of this medication, along with headache, dry mouth, nausea and weight gain.

You may want to ask your doctor about trying Pregabalin, it's a similar medication, but may not cause you to experience the same problem.

Thank you for the answer!! Verwon!! I was also 13lbs heavier and never knew it may have been on account of this drug. While being off this drug I lost the 13lbs during the 5 month time frame. I'm not a very tall gal. I'm 5ft. I'm now back down to a healthier weight. My Dr. Also knew I was over weight and instructed me to lose the weight, but it was very difficult. Since I was so much over weight, my blood pressure was high. Does this medication a reason my blood pressure was so high? Or was that due to my weight? Or a combination of both? Because now that I'm lighter, my blood pressure is more normal unless I'm in severe pain. I will discuss these matters with him and see if he will change my prescription. Thank you again and I will await your response.
