Gaba Side Effects

Hi there, my problem is complicated. Im on 50mg elavil and 200mgs of gabapentin. Recently I have been experiencing burnt tongue or mouth syndrome. Dr wants to up gabapentin to 300 to treat tongue. We first took away 1 of elavil to help stop dry mouth situation. Now I'm also experiencing salty tast in mouth. This is miserable. I also have fibro and depression. Hence the use of these drugs. Anyone else experiencing these mouth systems?

Omg I happened to see your post and am experiencing the exact same thing on exact same meds and fibro and depression. Now on one half of 25mgs elavil to wean me off of that and switch me to doxapin. Staying on 300 gabapentin. Which they seem to want to keep increasing gabapentin to treat tongue. I'm so confused as to what is causing the burning mouth thing. Did you figure out?

Yep exactly same thing!!! Can't figure out. I also weaned down to one 25 mgs from 50mgs of Elavil. Also tried lowering gaba. Just made me a nervous wreck. I get salty and metallic taste and feels glossy inside mouth. Please let me know if you find answere.

Don't worry about upping Gabba. I find no difference on 88mg 4 times a day. I have weird neurological conditions unexplained. Gabba does seem to help. I also suffer from some mental conditions. At night I am on 50mg of Elavil. Does help with sleep and cool my brain off.

The tongue issue could be due to side effects of the Elavil/Amitriptyline, or the Gabapentin. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, and weight changes.

Have any of you found a solution, yet?

Wojo, Gabapentin is not available in an 88mg dosage. What medication were you referring to? Is it something available by prescription, or over the counter?
