Folitrax 15 Mg

I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. Doctor prescribed Folitrax 15 mg, every monday. Since 15 mg tablets are not available in the available, can I take 3 tablets of Folitrax 5 mg, together? Will it create any problem?

Hi Granny,

The only potential problem I see with taking three 5mg tablets as opposed to one 15mg tablet, is that you are getting 3x the amount of binders/fillers, otherwise known as inactive ingredients.

Certain "inactive" ingredients which may or may not be present in each brand, are actually detrimental to how the drug is metabolized and used by your body. In other words they could effect the overall absorption and efficacy of the drug itself; so more is not always better in that regard. Some people react to various fillers and their body simply cannot absorb the medication. The next day they might find the entirety of the pill in their stool.

On the contrary, more binders/fillers do not always pose problems for each individual, since we all may respond differently. I would just suggest confirming this with your doctor before moving forward with your dosing in case he/she has other recommendations.
