Fluoxetine 40mg Pill Description

What does that pill look like? Can you describe the capsule that's manufactured by Sandoz?

Hello, Nancy! How are you? What are the markings on it? That is the information that would enable me to check the contents for you. Can you please post back and clarify?

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, weight loss, and dry mouth.

CHECK THIS OUT: I thought the problem (The cause of severe reflux and HEARTBURN) was the 40mg Fluoxetine (generic Prozac) in the blue capsule, but I also have 40 mg Fluoxetine in a WHITE capsule with 2 orange circular stripes (Sandoz GG 540). Since I wouldn't dare take all 40 mg, I emptied the capsule, replaced half the med (20 mg) into the capsule, and took the loose powder (20 mg) with food & a full 8 oz water (saving the half-full caps in a separate container.). No problem for about a week.

Then, on a day when I had last time, I took one of the half-full capsules. Oh, burning hell! It felt like my stomach would explode in my chest along with waves of nausea. I took whatever I had on hand for the relief of heartburn (baking soda and water, Tums, Pepto-Bismol, simethicone), remained upright, drank more water, all to no avail, no significant relief. I knew from experience that, if it were Prozac-related, this would pass in about 40 minutes. It did pass, all except the nagging question, "WHAT EXACTLY caused it THIS TIME??" It seems the only change was in consuming the capsule itself. Since I have a large supply of these capsules, I'd prefer to see if there were a way to take them without repercussion before "experimenting" with a different size, brand, form, etc. (Isn't that what CLINICAL TRIALS are for?!)

After reading everyone's posts here, I am taking half the powder from one capsule (20 mg) and I am expecting no discomfort. I hope to report the results of my informal, non-scientific (N=1) "experiment" later today or tomorrow.

Regardless of my outcome today, I will share my experience with the FDA (see below) and, hopefully, stimulate further research and label warnings, and assist future users of this medication/form/dosage.

If I DO have unpleasant side effects, I WILL contact my physician and request an altogether different SSRI (like Zoloft or CELEXA, etc.)
